YouthWorks is a summer work program placing students in summer youth service projects that address needs unique to a community. The work experience portion provides students with internship opportunities within specific occupational fields that also allow students to earn an academic credit. Both components represent the Summer Youth Service Corps (SYSC).
Communities In School of Philadelphia is proud to be the only organization in the city of Philadelphia to provide summer employment opportunities to students with special needs. This summer, as in previous years, Communities In School of Philadelphia provided special needs students in the School District of Philadelphia, the Overbrook School for the Blind and the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf with exposure to the world of work through employment placements with various businesses and agencies throughout the city of Philadelphia. Students received training and career exposure in the clerical field, building maintenance, landscaping, childcare, food service and hospitality service. Many special-needs students transition into permanent employment as a result of their summer YouthWorks employment placements.
