CISP targets youth who are at-risk of dropping out of school. Our programs focus on social services, career academies, alternative education, after school programming, literacy, specialty and workforce development programs with 25 initiatives, assisting over 13,000 students per year.

In the 2008-2009 school year, CISP’s programs proved to be an important lever in helping students move closer the collective goal of high school graduation and career readiness. Our premier teen parenting program, ELECT, which operates in more than 33 schools to ensure that male and female parents complete school and become better parents, attained an 82% graduation rate last spring for our eligible high school seniors. Males Achieving Responsibility Successfully (MARS), a National Fatherhood Initiative program exclusively for parenting fathers, achieved another year of solid participation with 3 out of 4 teen fathers attending programs and school regularly.  Our elementary school students also made significant gains in school, with Afterschool Enrichment students improving their school attendance by 16%.

At CISP, we rely on our research-based programs guided by the 5 Basics:

  1.  a one on one relationship with a caring adult
  2. a safe place to learn and grow
  3. a healthy start and a healthy future
  4. a marketable skill to use upon graduation
  5. a chance to give back to peers and community

We have successfully graduated at-risk students and developed innovative career paths for 24 years.
