Description
The Financial Literacy program addresses the gaps that disadvantaged youth face in academic, technological, and life skills preparation. CISP believes that the youth in Philadelphia public high schools do not receive the same level of training in these areas as do their suburban counterparts because of the many challenges that the School District of Philadelphia faces while operating a high-needs urban school system. As a result, many of Philadelphia’s graduates are not as prepared as they should be for the world of work or higher education, and are ill-equipped to compete with other youth who are entering the workforce.
Financial Literacy incorporates a financial education and technology literacy curriculum into existing school-based CISP programs/events. The program aids students to understand the connection between academic success and success in the world of work; the importance of finance and the pathway to becoming financially self-sufficient; and helps students develop stronger technology skills to compete in the job market of their future.
