The Philadelphia Teen Court is a program whereby, a high school student who has violated a Level 1 offense is held accountable by a jury of his or her peers. It is a sentencing court run by teens for teens. The Teen Court places the offender’s peers in the roles of jury member, prosecuting and defense attorney, clerk bailiff, and judge. The students are trained not only for their structured court roles, but also to be peer leaders in their school and community. As an alternative sanction for youthful offenders, the Teen Court serves as a youth empowerment program.
Teen Court operates in the following high schools: South Philadelphia, Frankford and Strawberry Mansion
