Start on Success serves students with disabilities, from Edison, Overbrook, University City, and West Philadelphia High Schools. A unique feature of the Start on Success program includes intensive job development for graduating students by the Marriott Foundations' Bridges from School to Work program.
Start on Success offers part-time, paid internships to high school students with disabilities. The interns acquire skills they need to succeed in the workplace, increasing the likelihood of a future of self-sufficiency. The program encourages students to discover that they have capabilities needed in the workplace, that they can be self-supporting, and that they can hope for a bright future. It helps employers and their non-disabled employees realize the advantages of hiring people with disabilities and helps communities demonstrate what can be accomplished with partnerships among students, parents, teachers, administrators, and employers.
