HEALTH TECH

The Health Tech program gives comprehensive exposure to the health care industry. Students are placed in both clinical and nonclinical jobs.  In addition, Health Tech's on-the-job training extends beyond the scope of clinical health care work. Administrative positions, building engineering, and client relation positions are also incorporated to give students experiences within the health care field.

Thirty-five 11th and 12th-grade students were recruited from Olney High School. In addition to completing an application, interview and screening process, the students are required to have at least a "C" average, 85% school attendance record, and no disciplinary records in order to be considered for the program.

Each student is provided with two mentors; one works with the students in the Career Awareness Program, while the other individual works directly with the student in the department, developing career interest skills identified by the student. The youth will receive varied paid work experiences in the health care setting, guidance from dedicated mentors, academic support, career and post-secondary education exploration, life skills training seminars, and ongoing social services support. The participating students receive a monetary stipend from St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children through CISP.
