In partnership with the School District of Philadelphia, the Culinary and Hospitality Program enhances the current curriculum of local schools. Teachers are provided with the basic culinary techniques needed for entry-level jobs in the industry. In turn, this training is passed on to their students. The Culinary and Hospitality Program also provides the seventeen participating high schools, with a Mentoring Chef Seminar Program. These industry professionals visit program classrooms and act as guest speakers, trainers and role models for both teachers and students. Students are motivated by opportunities to interface with local restaurants, hotels and other industry establishments through internships, apprenticeships and competitions. By focusing on improving skills and creating opportunities for students and teachers, the Culinary and Hospitality Program is able to create a synergy that benefits all. The partnership between the School District of Philadelphia and Communities In Schools of Philadelphia has produced some of the best culinary students in the state of Pennsylvania.
The Culinary and Hospitality Program within Communities In Schools of Philadelphia (CISP), annually serves over 1,000 students. CISP continues to provide worthwhile experiences for students and teachers in the Culinary and Hospitality Program. Through a concentrated effort, a greater number of students and teachers in the coming 2008 year will receive much needed materials and training to provide the Philadelphia community and higher educational institutions with students who excel academically and possess industry skill based competencies.
