The Dick YET Center operates 90 minutes per day Monday through Thursday from 3:09 p.m. to 4:39 p.m. from October to May and serves 25 students in second and third grades that have been targeted by the School District of Philadelphia as in need of literacy skills supports .  The Center follows a daily schedule of activities assuring a balanced literacy program comprised of independent reading, teacher reading, oral language, vocabulary and comprehension activities, writing and reading games.  Staffing includes a YET Center Director, certified instructor or lead teacher, assistant teacher, and a trained literacy volunteer.  Additionally, a Family Community Coordinator services the center by tracking attendance and connecting families to city services.

In 2007-2008 the center’s participants showed encouraging results on the Rigby Reads evaluation.  Students who began the year below basic improved and average of .88 points over the baseline.
