The MARS Men of Distinction program provides teen fathers and at-risk males individual and group mentoring within a collegiate environment. The MARS Men of Distinction is a subprogram of the broader ELECT/MARS programs that seek to provide teen parent and at-risk male support in the areas of academic advising, parenting skills, life skills, and overall personal development. The MARS Men of Distinction program helps teen fathers and at-risk males envision a possible future in a career of choice, with a focus and/or interest in pursuing a post-secondary education. Through the MARS Men of Distinction program, participants are provided the necessary college preparatory resources that will enable them to become well adjusted for prosperous collegiate experiences. We are excited to launch this Distinction program and are currently collaborating with our neighboring college: Community College of Philadelphia.
Participants are expected to:
- Complete an individual academic goal plan
- Develop a personal plan to reach identified goals
- Adhere to a personal and group code of conduct
- Display increased motivation to attain goals and accomplish objectives
- Achieve educational improvements with fewer discipline-related referrals
- Utilize networks to attain post-secondary education, employment, and support services
- Uphold the standards of the program while in the presence of their respective schools and communities.
Supplemental Activities Include:
- Individual and Group Sessions
- Seminars and Workshops
- Guest Speakers
- Access to Academic Support
- Field Trips
