MARS (Males Achieving Responsibility Sucessfully) EFI (ELECT Fatherhood Initiatives)

Program Description

The Males Achieving Responsibility Successfully (MARS) Program, a component program of ELECT, is an initiative of the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, and is administered locally in a collaborative effort of the School District of Philadelphia and CISP.

This multi-faceted, comprehensive program helps adolescent fathers complete their high school education and transition to the world of work and/or post-secondary education. Counseling and guidance is provided in their personal development to promote responsible, capable, and healthy fathers. Intense focus is placed on accountability, parenting skill, career preparation, and life skills development. MARS also adapts the academic program and social service supports of the Teen Parent Centers to the unique and complex needs of adolescent fathers.

Program Specifics

Participants are expected to perform the following: complete an individual education and social service plan; develop a personal plan to reach identified goals; accept parental responsibilities; adhere to a personal and group code of conduct; display appropriate workforce and professional behavior and accomplishment objectives; achieve educational improvements with fewer discipline-related referrals; and utilize networks to attain employment, support services and post-secondary education.
