Each year, the School District of Philadelphia has traditionally sponsored a fund drive among students called "Share the Love." In past years, the proceeds from this fundraiser were routinely donated to the City's Department of Human Services. This year however, things changed, and students in each high school were allowed to vote on which charity or organizations they wanted to receive their collective donations. The students at South Philadelphia High School chose their own school's ELECT (Education Leading to Employment and Career Training) Teen Parent Center.
The ELECT (Education Leading to Employment and Career Training) Teen Parent Center at South Philadelphia High School has an outstanding record in fulfilling its mission of providing pregnant and parenting teens with the academic and social support services to help them stay in school. They also assist in helping find employment opportunities if necessary, and with practical parenting skills needed to raise healthy and happy children. It is therefore gratifying to note that South Philadelphia High School's student body has recognized the good work the ELECT Center does, as well as its value to the high school
