Communities in Schools of Philadelphia, Inc. (CISP), Careers through Culinary Arts program (C-CAP) partnered with the School District of Philadelphia's Office of Secondary Education presented "My Compliments to the Chef, Part III" on March 25, 2004, the third annual event in which students from Philadelphia secondary schools are paired with area chefs, teachers, and award-winning restaurants to present their culinary skills to the community at large. This fundraising event benefited the C-CAP Scholarship Program offered by CISP was held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Among the special guests in attendance was NBC10's News Anchor Denise Nakano who served as Mistress of Ceremony of the awards program that honored the following individuals for their continued support of CISP and C-CAP: Honorable Chaka Fattah, U.S. Congressman; Professor Royer Smith, Chef Instructor, Drexel University; Kim Staudt, Partner, Pricewaterhouse-Coopers, LLP; and Jo Anne Wilder, Director of Press and Community Relations, NBC10.
Citizens Bank, NBC10, and Comcast are the premier corporate sponsors for the event. All attendees enjoyed cuisine samplings from the following participating restaurants/organizations : Joseph Poon Asian Fusion Restaurant; The Marker; Fork; bluzette; Brown's kitchen; The School District of Philadelphia's Café 21; Vesuvio Restaurante; Community College of Philadelphia; and Real Men Cook . Donated merchandise and services were sold to the highest bidder during the silent auction, courtesy of area businesses including the following: Loews Philadelphia Hotel; Philadelphia Phillies; Deux Cheminees, Lacroix at the Rittenhousel MANNA Catering; Barnes and Noble; October Gallery; Dominic's Appliances; Staples; and Joseph Poon Asian Fusion Restaurant among others.
The Careers Through Culinary Arts Program, Inc. (C-CAP) is a national non-profit corporation whose mission is to promote and provide career opportunities in the industry for inner-city youth through culinary arts education and apprenticeship. C-CAP strives to equip students with the skills required to succeed in the workplace and to impart the lasting assets of self-esteem, self-reliance, and teamwork. In partnership with public schools, local organizations and businesses, C-CAP provides education, career counseling, training, mentoring, and scholarships in communities throughout the nation.
