Lasheeda Perry has been part of the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) at Frankford High School for 2 years. Over the past 2 years Lasheeda has achieved great success both inside and outside of school. She credits C-CAP with preparing her for life, challenging her and motivating her to succeed, teaching her responsibility, and helping her to become a leader. As a result of her success in the program, Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) has presented Lasheeda Perry with a four-year full tuition scholarship to Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, valued at $76,000 to study Culinary Arts.
This fall Lasheeda, one of 8 children, will become the first member of her family to attend college, an honor that she fills her with pride. Lasheeda is also the valedictorian of her graduating class with a cumulative grade average of 99.428. She has been voted one of Philadelphia's Most Valuable students and will be honored today for the Best of Class ceremony.
Lasheeda is also a member of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Frankford High School where she is a Battalion Commander, the highest Cadet level. She also participates as a Peer Leader and counsel's incoming freshman about the difficulties of life as a teenager. After school, Lasheeda works at Burger King where she is a Production Leader. She was named Employee of the Month and has been presented with a Guest Service Certificate.
Lasheeda hopes to follow in the footsteps of Emeril Lagasse and have her own TV show dedicated to Baking and Pastry Arts. She also has an interest in law, which she hopes to pursue in the future. Her advice to prospective students is this, "Education is very important, beginning with freshman year. Never let anything get you down, and be motivated." She credits Ms. Stephenson, her culinary arts teacher, and Mr. Grausman, founder of C-CAP for helping her to achieve her dream.
