Since his arrival to Communities in Schools of Philadelphia, Inc. (CISP) in 1994, Martin Nock has been directly responsible for developing and implementing more than 100 specialized educational and social services programs. These initiatives are provided in collaboration with The School District of Philadelphia, agencies of the federal and state governments, and a large number of other non-profit organizations and community-minded businesses.
During his tenure, Martin has taken CISP from three employees and a $300,000 budget to over 400 staff and a budget of $17 million. Since its inception in 1986, CISP has grown to annually serve more than 13,000 public school students attending Philadelphia's high schools and kindergarten through 8th grade schools.
Martin's contributions toward the success of various initiatives - spearheaded by organizations such as: Philadelphia Youth Council, National Youth Employment Coalition, First Book Philadelphia, and Freedom Schools Advisory Council—are invaluable partnerships with CISP and fit well with our mission: “to champion the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life.”
Through Martin’s determination and leadership, he has created business and educational partnerships that exemplify the adage that "success and achievement are always within reach." Martin is a graduate of the New York City Public School System, attended Gettysburg College, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Temple University.
Before accepting the position as President of Communities In Schools of Philadelphia, Inc., he worked extensively in the social services industry and served 15 years as the Program Director for the Philadelphia High School Academies, creating career academies in the following industries: Business; Health; Law, Criminal Justice and Public Administration; Aviation and Aerospace Engineering; and Fitness, Wellness and Health Promotion.
