In 2002, the student activist group, Philadelphia Student Union, made important strides to bring about progressive change to the traditional school makeup in our city. The group surveyed students throughout the city and found 68% of them do not receive help with personal problems from anyone at school. This finding, along with the interest and momentum already at work to better coordinate developmental, college and career services by the Philadelphia School District and other stakeholders, led to the creation of Student Success Centers. Communities In Schools of Philadelphia manages these Centers in:

• Germantown High School
• Overbrook High School
• Frankford High School

Student Success Centers uses a holistic approach to assist students in creating a post-secondary school plan. The Centers provide a number of services and resources for students all under one roof, including college preparation and awareness, career exploration and exposure, academic support and leadership development in order to help students to achieve their post-secondary goals.
